Historic Blakeley State Park was created in 1981 to preserve the National Register Site and its 5 1/2 miles of pristine erosion-controlling fortifications. It is the largest National Historic Register Site east of the Mississippi River - encompassing 3800 acres nestled beside the Tensaw River. This site abounds with Prehistoric Indian mounds and was the last major battle of the Civil War fought here at Fort Blakeley. There are also 15 miles of magnificent nature trails, bicycle and horse paths in "The South's most beautiful Ghost Town."

Visitors to Blakeley State Park will find many things to do. Hiking, fishing, bicycle and horseback riding, picnicking, and canoe launching are just a few of the activities guests will enjoy. Blakeley is the ideal location for hosting such events as school field trips, church outings, Boy and Girl Scout outings and weekends, weddings, family reunions, birthday parties, and corporate picnics. Primitive camping at Blakeley Park is quite popular during all four seasons of the year. One can camp singly or in large groups among 3800 acres of pristine wilderness located beside the mighty Tensaw River. Motor home campers that are self-contained also find this vast area a delight to visit. Small overnight horseback groups are also acceptable.
