(Nearby Phoenix insures Avondale is never lonely)
Incorporated in 1946, the town of Avondale enjoys its location in the sunny, warm climate of southern Arizona. Situated at an elevation of just over 1,000 feet, Avondale does endure summer temperatures around 106, though winter lows hover in the mid-30's.
Avondale began as a small, agricultural town, though in recent years it has seen rapid growth. The city's strategic location just miles west of the Phoenix metropolitan area has led to much of this growth as people seek the quiet calm of smaller communities. Avondale has not left its agricultural beginnings, though it is quickly becoming an important commercial center. Although housing has increased sharply, careful future planning by the city aims to retain Avondale's small-town feel.
Avondale's heart belongs to racing. The Phoenix International Raceway, with a capacity of over 100,000, hosts several major racing events. The track has been rated one of the fastest one-mile ovals in the world. Several events and races take place here, including the NASCAR Winston Cup Dura Lube 500 and Billy Moore Days in October, and the Phoenix 200 Indy in March.
Avondale is located just off of I-10 and enjoys quick access to the Phoenix-Tempe metro area. The natural beauty of southern Arizona is in abundance, with several mountain ranges and striking sunsets.
