Prescott is located in central Arizona amid the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in the world. Prescott was established in 1864, incorporated in 1881, and is the Yavapai County seat. The city is named in honor of William Hickling Prescott, a noted historian.

The community is 96 miles northwest of Phoenix and 90 miles southwest of Flagstaff. Interstate Highway 17 is located 36 miles southeast of Prescott via Arizona Highway 69 or 169. Prescott, is also located 52 miles South of Interstate 40 via U.S. Highway 89.

Unlike low-lying Phoenix, Prescott is Arizona’s mile-high city. The high elevation of 5,347 ft., and mountain breezes keep temperatures from being grueling hot. In summer, the daytime temperature rarely exceeds 85°F. In winter’s sun-filled days temperatures average about 50°F. Humidity stays a moderate 45% year-round. Average snowfall is 21 inches per year, and usually melts after a few hours of sunshine; rainfall averages 19 inches per year.
