(The Sonoran Desert is filled with fascinating plant and animal life)
Scottsdale is a taste of the Old West combined with a resort community of unparalleled amenities. Located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, Scottsdale is home to beautiful sunsets, towering Saguaro cacti and many peculiar species of plants and animals. Despite Scottsdale's decidedly desert location, there is plenty here to make you forget you are in the center of a 100,000 square mile expanse of sand and cacti.
The scenic McDowell Mountains are the perfect setting for a horseback ride that includes a history lesson of the city's Western heritage. You can also raft the Salt and Verde rivers, make a splash in one of our tempting area lakes or pools, take to the air in a hot air balloon, or come down to earth and rollerblade through the city's gorgeous park system. During the evening another side of Scottsdale comes out, as rustic steakhouses beckon you with their aromas coursing through the dry desert air. If you are a fan of international cuisine, the tastes of Italy, France, India, Japan and China are within easy walking distance. After a nice dining experience,
follow it up with a live music performance, dancing, or take in the arts at Scottsdale's 125 galleries, studios, and museums. After getting a good night's sleep at a five-star resort or affordably-priced hotel, play a round or two of golf at one of the metro area's 175 courses, many of which were designed by some of the game's most famous names.
Scottsdale is located about 10 miles to the east of Phoenix. Access to and from Scottsdale is greatly facilitated by the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in downtown Phoenix. Once in the metro area, motor coaches, rental cars, limousines, airport shuttles, and taxis make getting around simple and carefree.
