(Robson's Arizona Mining World is one of many artifacts from the Old West)
Wickenburg still resembles the Old West town it was when the promise of gold brought miners and beavers along the Hassayampa River brought hunters and trappers to this area. While this interest in the West was increasing much of this region became part of the United States shortly after the Mexican-American War in 1848.
Today, the West possesses a unique charm and Wickenburg is no exception. This community has endured much hardship and history, all of which adds to the richness of Wickenburg's culture today. A visit here will quickly reveal an era when life was simple and the spirit of the Old West was beginning to thrive. Historic buildings grace the downtown area amidst modern buildings that house growing businesses. These include the railroad depot, which is home to the Chamber of Commerce, and numerous ranches that aim to capture the allure of Western hospitality. In fact, Wickenburg is known as the Dude Ranch Capital of the World. Annual events, such as the Gold Rush Days and the DC Ride, and organizations like the Desert Caballeros are committed to preserving the best traditions of the Old West.
The natural setting for Wickenburg adds to its unique charm. Several mountain ranges are within close proximity, including the Weaver, Buckskin and Vulture Mountains. Combined with a sunny climate, beautiful sunsets, and the Hassayampa River, Wickenburg is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.
Wickenburg is located along US 90 and US 63 and is about 50 miles northwest of the Phoenix metro area.
