President Andrew Jackson made the current site of Hot Springs a Federal Reservation in 1832, an act that protected it for future generations. This area was and is a very desirable location for the thermal waters of its many springs. When President Jackson made Hot Springs a protected land he basically founded our nation's first national park. Today, Hot Springs is a resort area whose thermal waters are a unique draw for thousands of visitors each year. The beautifully restored National Park stands amid the architectural treasures of the bathhouses, Victorian buildings, art and sculpture galleries.

History remains an important foundation for the modern city of Hot Springs. There are literally dozens of sites that attest to the colorful past of this area, including the Ohio Club, originally owned by Otis McGraw to be a private club and gambling saloon. This building, erected in the early 1900's, features a domed-roof bay window, transoms and pressed metal facade. Other historical points of interest are the Chapel Hotel, Cafe New Orleans, and the Majestic Hotel.

A visit to Hot Springs would not be complete without a hike through the National Park area. Steeped in the amazing healing thermal waters, history, scientific/geological experiences, beautiful architecture, hiking, camping and just plain enjoyment - Hot Springs National Park is just plain fun. It is one of the smallest such parks in the country, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in wonder and beauty.

There are numerous attractions in Hot Springs that will appeal to the entire family. Such sights include the Arkansas Alligator Farm & Petting Zoo, the Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum, and the Mid - America Science Museum. After a day of taking in the character and charm of Hot Springs, you are invited to partake of a Hot Springs bath. There are a variety of bathing facilities open to the public on Bathhouse Row and in hotels and health spas downtown. These world-famous hot mineral baths are one of the most popular and memorable experiences to be found in Hot Springs. And with the restoration of Downtown and the magnificent Hot Springs National Park Visitors Center & Museum, they are becoming even more popular.
