Alameda - A Place to Live, Work, and Play

Alameda offers a wide array of recreational and cultural opportunities. Blending old world tradition with high technology, Alameda offers the best of both worlds. Alameda's tree-lined streets, Victorian homes, and small-town atmosphere lure both young and old to its shores looking to treasure snapshots of history and tradition.

The Marina Village Yacht Harbor pleasure craft marina consists of 750 boat slips, including several end ties that can accommodate vessels up to 275 feet in length. Altogether, the marina can accommodate about 800 vessels. There is a approximately 28,869 lineal feet of boat dock, accessed through eleven security gates. Gates 1-7, comprising 228 berths, are operated by Oakland Yacht Club. The balance (Gates 8-11) is operated by Marina Village for use by the general public.

The harbor enjoys an excellent location on the Oakland/Alameda Estuary, a narrow finger of San Francisco Bay between the island of Alameda and Oakland. This location is favored by sailors, as San Francisco Bay proper is just three miles from the Marina. Numerous small craft marinas and larger shipping facilities take advantage of the fine harbor provided by the Estuary. In addition to its close proximity to the center of San Francisco Bay's most desirable boating area, this location is known for its outstanding weather, usually warmer than other marina locations around the Bay. Since the marina is located along the entire boundary of Marina Village, it is an important visual amenity to the office tenants at Marina Village.

Golfing: Alameda featurs two 18-hole courses: a 9-hole par 3 executive course, driving range, practice putting green, pro shop, and restaurant, the Chuck Corica Municipal Golf Complex entices golfers of all ages and abilities to its beautiful fairways and greens. Marinas & Boat Ramps: With 7 marinas and 5 yacht clubs, Alameda is a haven for sailors. Some of the region's largest and best boat building, repair, and wholesale shops are housed along Alameda's shores. Alameda has two public boat ramps for visitors and residents to launch their boats and jet skis.

Community Theatres: Rich in theater arts, Alameda's three local theaters showcase plays year-round: Altarena Theatre (community playhouse), Alameda High School's Little Theater, and the Kofman Auditorium.

Museums: The Alameda Historical Museum has regular exhibits of memorabilia reflecting Alameda's rich history. At Alameda Point - the former Naval Air Station - the Aircraft Carrier Hornet museum attracts visitors from around the world to see this historic ship and its displays.

Biking and Walking Trails: Alameda's picturesque shoreline, meandering lagoons and tree-lined neighborhoods are ideal for biking and walking. Swimmers and windsurfers enjoy Alameda's sunny weather and bay breezes at Crown Memorial State Beach. Alameda's 20 community parks offer sports courses, playground and picnic areas.

Professional Sports: Just 10 minutes from Alameda is the Network Associates Coliseum, home to the Oakland A's, the Oakland Raiders (headquartered in Alameda) and the Golden State Warriors.

Youth Sports: Alameda offers a variety of organized sports for boys and girls of all ages. Little League baseball and Babe Ruth baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and tennis are just some of the numerous organized sport programs available for our children.

Housing: Alameda's Victorian Preservation Society and the Historical Museum actively seek to preserve the architecture and landmarks that make Alameda so unique. Architectures from every era decorate the streets of Alameda. The variety of housing from antique Victorians to stately mansions, from '70s architecture to brand new homes and condominiums, offers something for everyone. As Alameda embraces the tremendous changes taking place throughout the island, the community continues to treasure and preserve its history while making room for the future.

Location: An island located in the heart of the Bay Area, Alameda has miles of sandy beaches, walking trails and spectacular views.

Technology: More than 100 technology-oriented companies have located facilities in Alameda. Alameda Point is providing new homes and locations for businesses ranging from small start-ups to campuses for well-established corporations. Wind River Systems, Lucent Technologies, Geoworks, Netopia, Microprose, Wink Communications, Perforce Software and Pilot Networks are just some of the technology companies that have recently made Alameda their home.
