We're proud of Chico's open, diverse nature and the wide range of activities and events typically found only in larger, metropolitan areas. We're especially pleased that we've been able to maintain a special sense of community, comradarie, and small-town living throughout the years.
The Chico City Council has maintained a policy supporting business and industrial development within the Chico community. All development assistance is based upon a strong and consistent planning program which allocates adequate land for business and industrial development and provides the public improvements essential for a vigorous economic development program. The business sector is one of the major cornerstones of our healthy community.

City Government
Incorporated in 1872, the City of Chico has a long tradition of strong government. It operates under a City Council-City Manager form of city government with a seven-member City Council. Every two years the Council elects one of its members to serve as Mayor. The Council appoints the City Manager, who manages day-to-day operations of the City. Working under the direction of the City Manager are the various city operating departments. The Citys strong management is reflected in its budget. A strong local economy provides sufficient resources to support all basic City services in addition to allocations for community agencies and services.
