Palos Verdes Estates Relocation Guide

Palos Verdes Estates is located in Los Angeles County

Population: 13,340

Palos Verdes Estates is located in Los Angeles County and is the oldest of the four cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It was designed by the noted American landscape architect and planner Frederick Law Olmsted. This seaside rural city is the 81st richest place in the United States, located south of the City of Los Angeles and thirty minutes from LAX International Airport.

The City faces the Pacific Ocean and boasts of 4.5 linear miles of coastline.  There are several accessible beaches although most of the shoreline is marked by high cliffs rising 1134 at the highest elevation. The city is mainly residential, with no traffic lights and relatively limited commercial areas around Malaga Cove and Lunada Bay.

One of Southern California's most expensive neighborhoods, Palos Verdes Estates' aesthetics and architecture are protected by an Art Jury, a non-governmental organization which must approve any exterior alteration to any building, fence, sidewalk, or other structure.  Homes are custom  built with the planning of each designed around aesthetics, neighborhood character, open space and air, views and privacy.  The city was incorporated in 1939, and the area around Malaga Cove has most of the Peninsula's earlier buildings.  28% of city land is dedicated parkland. In certain residential areas and canyons, Peacocks roam freely.

Education
The city is served by Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. PVPUSD schools have constantly ranked among the best in California and the nation. The Washington Post once ranked Palos Verdes Peninsula High School as the 8th best public or private high school in the nation. Also, Chadwick School is well known K-12 private school that serves the area.

One of Palos Verdes Estates’ notable landmarks is Neptune Fountain, the City’s logo, in Malaga Cove Plaza. The elaborate two-thirds scale replica of a bronze statue and fountain erected in Bologna, Italy in 1563, was donated to Palos Verdes Estates in 1930 by the Palos Verdes Project. The statue is thought to have been over 100 years old before it was brought to the City and was obtained from a villa courtyard outside Venice. One of many golf and tennis clubs on the Peninsula is owned by PVE with memberships offered to City residents.  The City also owns the Beach and Athletic Club located on the cliffs above the ocean offering swim programs, athletic fitness facility and social programs.  Generations of children have learned how to swim in the summer lessons at the Beach Club formerly named Roessler Swim Club.  The Palos Verdes Peninsula prides itself on its public schools rated highly in the State and considers this a main attraction for relocation to the area.  Excellent private schools are also available.
