Rancho Palos Verdes is located in Los Angeles County
Population: 41,145 Incorporated in 1973, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes is the youngest and largest city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Each birthday celebration is a milestone for all of the people who worked so hard and so long for incorporation. The birth of Rancho Palos Verdes was the culmination of a series of events that occurred during the first half of the 20th Century.
The incorporation of the fourth city came just in the nick of time. Although some of the developments allowed by the County were larger and denser than what the City would allow today, they are relatively few. The overall rural ambience and 7.5 miles of coastline of the community has remained intact with development control due to the City Planners and concerned and caring residents. Dedicated parkland and rural open space abounds. Enjoy hiking trails through ancient landslide canyons, lookout points, picnics, soccer, baseball and whale watching in the numerous parks located throughout the City. Several private and public golf courses and tennis clubs are available. Walking, running, biking, motorcycling, and surfing on the Peninsula are all popular sports of choice. With elevations at some points as high as 1500 feet, views are magnificent and air quality is at its best and enjoyed by the approximate 42,000 citizens (2000 Census). Rancho Palos Verdes is an oasis connected yet separated from the hectic pace of modern city life. In the words of author Augusta Fink, it is "the promise of paradise fulfilled." The City encompasses such a large region on the Peninsula that the many residential communities are diverse in appeal, locations and climates. There is something for everyone! The Palos Verdes Peninsula Public School system is rated among the best in the State and is often considered the main draw to the Peninsula by families with children. Fine Private Schools are also available.
The most recent and nationally popular addition to the Peninsula is the Donald Trump Los Angeles International Golf Course located in Rancho Palos Verdes. Situated on 261 acres with a shoreline of 6833 yards and designed by Pete Dye, the course has been designed for championship golfers. Not a golfer, enjoy the club house and bar and event facilities on the bluffs above the mighty Pacific Ocean looking out towards Catalina Island. Mr. Trump is also building dream homes situated on the boundaries of the golf course. Down the road on the old Marineland site, currently being developed is a Destination Resort Hotel with Casitas and golf academy.
