(Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse)
A thriving artists colony, Trinidad puts the word "picturesque" to shame. As you drive north on Highway 101, Trinidad Head can be seen miles before you reach the town, and the Head offers a hike rewarded by stunning ocean and coastal views. At its base, petite Trinidad Bay is dotted with boats; there's a working fishing pier with a restaurant. Nearby is the HSU Marine Lab & Aquarium (570 Ewing St.) with tide pool touch tanks. In the vicinity of Trinidad are some of the most beautiful parks and beaches in California, including Trinidad State Beach and Patricks Point State Park. Take Scenic Drive south from town through an area of ocean view homes and pocket beaches. Going north, take Patricks Point Drive for a splendid scenic alternative to Hwy. 101, offering ocean vistas and several bed & breakfast inns. You'll rejoin the 101 near Patricks Point.
