Population: 7,589 Greenwood Village is a thriving city in search of an identity. Having weathered political storms, commercial development, retail uneasiness, and not postal designation until recently, this community is enjoying a moment in history filled with community cooperation and internal calm. The city was founded in 1950 and immediately a lawsuit was filed by a disgruntled resident. Since then the community has grown from a truly rural village to a community with something for everyone. Greenwood Village became a home rule city in 1972, giving it the ability to govern itself. Also, in 1972, a parks and recreation department was created and has flourished. Residents and employees of the many companies based in Greenwood Village enjoy the outdoor amenities. The eastern section is laden with covenant-controlled developments; the western section is rural in nature, complete with dirt roads, farm houses and horse pastures - flanked by some of the most expensive homes in the south metro area. The thriving and growing Denver Technological Center (DTC) and Greenwood Plaza commercial districts split the elongated city in half. With all its diversity, Greenwood Village has become a model city where big business coexists with upscale living and rural acreage. What was first deemed Wallace's Folly thirty years ago, the DTC has become the prototype for business districts today.
