Hotchkiss is located in Western Colorado approxmately 65 miles southeast of Grand Junction. Hotchkiss is the hub of roads that spoke out to all local communities, scenic attractions, and the world beyond.

County roads ray out in all directions. One leads south to Smith Fork Canyon and Black Canyon National Monument; another, climbing Leroux Creek, passes Hanson's Castle on the way to fishing and hunting country among Grand Mesa reservoirs. (Hotchkiss is also centrally located to elk and deer haunts.) Other roads wind through valley and mesa farmlands to Midway, Lazear, Eckert and Cedaredge.
But roads lead toward Hotchkiss during fair days in August when the town hosts the Delta County Fair and Rodeo at the fairgrounds, and provides overnight camping facilities.
With its face to the sun and a mountain at its back, Hotchkiss enjoys open winters with bright days and light snows. Night temperatures rarely touch zero, even though this a mountain town 5,400 feet above sea level.
Surrounding valley and mesa lands produce cherries, peaches, apples, apricots, and pears. Large cattle and sheep operations are based here, and local dairies frequently top state production records.
