(Crown Hill Park Lake)
Lakewood is a city very much on the move and with its population of 144,000, it is the fourth largest city in Colorado. Like Wheat Ridge, it has many parks and green belts, but unlike Wheat Ridge, the city boasts more parks and facilities than any other city in Colorado of comparable size. Pictured is Crown Hill Park Lake, which is a dividing line between Wheat Ridge and Lakewood. One can walk, run, rollerblade or bike around the lake. I have also seen people horseback riding and enjoying the bird sanctuary in the park. There are over 6,500 acres of parkland, half of which has been left in its natural state. Over 80 miles of trails wind through the city of hikers, bikers, roller bladders and horseback riders.
Lakewood is the home of Fox Hollow Golf Course, a favorite to Colorado golfers. Fox Hollow is the first course in the country designed for golfers of all physical abilities and disabilities.
The city also boasts a new 2.7 million dollar baseball diamond, a cooperative effort between the City of Lakewood, the Colorado Rockies, Jefferson County Schools and many others. This facility gives our youth positive opportunities.
The above represents only a few of the truly wonderful aspects about the City of Lakewood, which rises from the plains into the foothills. Lakewood is presently building a new City Hall, new housing and a new theatre for plays, all in the same complex.
