Population: 29,208 Newington is a well-balanced community with a residential, industrial and commercial base, and was incorporated on land from Wethersfield in 1871. It is located 5 miles southwest of Hartford, and is surrounded by West Hartford, Farmington, New Britain, Berlin, Rocky Hill, Hartford, and Wethersfield. Newington boasts two fine examples of early architecture, the Kellogg-Eddy House built in 1807, which was modeled on features of Connecticut's "Old State House," and the Kelsey House, which was built in 1799 and was relocated and restored. The town also contains the Newington Children's Hospital; it was founded in 1898 and the present structure was dedicated by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1930. Newington's principal industries include milk processing, and manufacture of airplane parts, ball bearings, dies, gauges, tools and plumbing supplies.
