Newtown is located in Fairfield County

Population: 25,031

Quaint New England town, Newtown is nestled in the rolling hills and meadows of Connecticut. Newtown was settled as a small sheep farming and milling center in 1708. It is a community-minded area with activities for all age groups. A wonderful quiet and rustic place to live with plenty of scenic lands for pleasant living and recreational fun. The selection of architectural designs, sizes and price ranges in town satisfy the most demanding needs of every family.

The traditional New England Town Green once provided grazing for the town's flock, and today is still surrounded by a lovely collection of pre-Revolutionary War homes - attractive reminders of Newtown's early days. Main Street is also home to the town's distinctive towering flagpoles. A number of small industries, with historic roots dating to colonial and civil war times, still operate in Newtown, including the Curtis Packaging Corporation, Newtown Savings Bank - founded in 1855, The Red Brick Store and the Newtown General Store. Easy travel to employment and commercial centers makes Newtown particularly appealing to commuters.

The importance of the education and welfare of the town's children is reflected in the public school system and the many outstanding youth services. In addition to traditional academic coursework, special programs are provided for intellectually and artistically gifted students and disabled pupils, as well as a state-of-the-art computer science program and after-school childcare. Newtown has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Connecticut is home to several outstanding universities including Yale. The Children's Adventure Center, an innovative daycare facility, several preschools and a parochial school offer private instruction. Aquatic and land sports abound at the town recreation facilities and pristine state parks. Sports and recreation are plentiful from tennis, athletic fields, horseback riding, parks and playgrounds, skiing, (only two hours north and the best on the East Coast) to boating and sailing in the many lakes (Lake Lillioniah and Lake Zoar), rivers (The Housatonic River) and even Long Island Sound. The Housatonic River, Lake Lillioniah, Lake Zoar and Paugauett State Forest offer breathtaking settings for the nature enthusiast. Teen and senior centers host a variety of programs and social events, and two private country clubs feature challenging courses for golfers.
