Waterbury is located in New Haven County

Population: 108,961 Settled in 1674 and incorporated in 1686, Waterbury seems to have held fast to its sleepy rural charm for most of its early history. In the mid-nineteenth century, the town blossomed into a major industrial center with the production of copper and brass. Modern Waterbury continues to enjoy the economic benefits of the copper and brass industry, as well as the benefits of clock and watch making, and offers an exciting place to live and work.

The nineteen elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools of Waterbury's extensive public school system provide a solid education to the large student population. Special services for the intellectually gifted and disabled are also featured, as are evening classes for adults. Private instruction is available through ten elementary schools and three high schools. High education is well represented by a campus of the University of Connecticut, Naugatuck Valley Community-Technical College and Teikyo Post University.

Recreational, shopping and cultural amenities abound in this large city. A vast public park system provides over 900 acres of well-kept playgrounds, ballfields, tennis courts, swimming pools, a beach and six recreation centers. Two municipal golf courses and several private clubs delight players, and a civic stadium hosts a variety of events. Numerous plazas and shopping centers and the Naugatuck Valley Mall are located in Waterbury. Local talent is encouraged and enjoyed on the Curtain Players stage, and the Seven Angels Theatre brings off-Broadway productions to town. The Mattatuck Museum and the fine architecture of Cass Gilbert surrounding the Town Green, offer a nostalgic glimpse and Waterbury's industrial history.
