Incorporated in 1854, West Hartford is a large suburban community with a small town character and the cultural and commercial amenities of a metropolitan center. A wealth of diverse lifestyle possibilities and recreational and social activities make West Hartford an excellent choice for enjoyable family living.
An array of neighborhoods feature some of the loveliest homes in Connecticut. Large stately houses, charming colonials and impressive contemporaries dot the landscape and grace the tree-lined avenues of town. The home of Noah Webster, author of America's first comprehensive dictionary, is a well-preserved museum, and the West Hartford Art League offers classes and exhibits at the Saltbox Gallery. The Children's Museum of Connecticut features the state's largest planetarium, nature exhibits with live animals, an aquarium and laser light shows.
