(The Brevard County Government Center)
Cocoa Beach is located on a barrier island that is flanked by the Banana Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Blessed with the natural beauty that is common to northern Brevard County, Cocoa Beach can also boast of having two of the country's most recognizable sites in its backyard: Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. Cocoa Beach enjoys its cozy location on the barrier island that is just one mile wide. Entry into the city is accessible via a single travel route (Miramar Boulevard), giving residents a sense of security and uniqueness.
Cocoa Beach spent much of its history as a lazy beach town where astronauts at Cape Canaveral would come to relax. Indeed, even today the town is heavily influenced by the progress of the space program. However, Cocoa Beach has managed to become more diversified and is now a haven for tourists, retirees, and small businesses. Local residents are very protective of their natural surroundings, though the town is very quick to showcase the wonders of the area's fauna and flora.
One of Cocoa Beach's centerpieces has to be the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Owned by the town and open to the public, this facility includes a 27-hole golf course, 6 lighted tennis courts, and an Olympic size pool. The Club virtually resides on its own island just adjacent to the barrier island. However, if golf is not your passion, Cocoa Beach has a Sports Complex and several local parks. In addition, six miles of ocean beaches are available for swimming, tanning and picnicking.
Cocoa Beach is located just miles from Cape Canaveral and is less than an hour from Orlando and all of that city's attractions (Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, to name a few).
