The Palm Bay Marina (The Palm Bay Marina)

Palm Bay is located in Brevard County

Population: 81,600
The area's first white settlers came to the area in the 1850's and soon began a lumbering operation along with producing oranges. Early growth was slow before the arrival of the railroad. Over time, the area's fertile land was exploited for heavy agricultural use. Canals were dug to control flooding and make marshy areas favorable for farming. This was done under the tutelage of the Melbourne-Tillman Drainage District, which helped usher in a short period of prosperity in the 1920's. However, an untimely hurricane devastated the area and Melbourne-Tillman went bankrupt. This land was later purchased and development began once again in the 1960's. Today, Palm Bay is one of the largest incorporated areas in Florida, yet it is only 30% developed. Planning officials are working toward a population goal of 250,000, and current city demographics (66% are working age or younger) poise Palm Bay for such growth.

Palm Bay takes advantage of its beautiful natural setting to attract visitors, potential residents, and new businesses. Some of the best swimming, surfing, boating and fishing are to be found on the Atlantic coast in Palm Bay. Wildlife viewing is also a popular attraction in this area. Wildlife Turkey Creek Sanctuary, Sand Pine Ridge, Wet Hammock and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge are to be found in Palm Bay and surrounding towns.

Overall, Palm Bay is a lazy, relaxed town. However, you will not find a shortage of amenities here. Wonderful shopping districts, an array of cuisine, and plentiful housing opportunities allow an easy transition, regardless from where you are relocating. Palm Bay also offers a strong cultural scene, with the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, the Melbourne Civic Theatre and the Brevard Museum of Art & Science, which features artists from around the world and offers interactive children's exhibits.

Visitors to Palm Bay will find it difficult to leave this ocean paradise. It is important to remember that this town is great on the inside, too, offering above-average schools, safe streets, and a strong economy. Perhaps the best feature of Palm Bay is its people, dedicated to their town and more than eager to welcome a new face.

Palm Bay sits on US 1, with easy access to nearby Melbourne and the Bee Line Expressway (which runs straight into Orland and all of its tourist attractions). The nation's Space Program can be seen in action at Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center, both just 45 minutes north.
