Palm Harbor is located on the west coast of Florida (right on the Gulf of Mexico), just south of Tarpon Springs, north of Dunedin and Clearwater, and west of Oldsmar. As part of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area, the town is within commuter distance of both Tampa and St. Petersburg. In addition, Orlando is only 90 minutes away by automobile. Geographically, Palm Harbor is in the northern part of Pinellas County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state.
The temperature in Palm Harbor, as is typical for Tampa Bay, averages in the upper 80's/lower 90's during the summer months, and 60-70's during the winter months making it an ideal climate for "snow birds" escaping the ravages of winters in the north. Because of the warm winds coming up from the Caribbean, humidity is relatively high. Although we keep an eye open for hurricanes, such storms will more often hit the Atlantic coast or southern tip of Florida instead of the Sun Coast side.
A comfortable place to live, work, and go to school. The community is still growing and evolving. The citrus orchards of yesteryear have been replaced by communities of comfortable and affordable homes. Its proximity within the Tampa Bay area offers excellent shopping and recreation facilities, along with sporting and cultural events. See our Schools section for more information on local schools.
In addition to the many shops dotting the U.S. 19 landscape (the main artery traveling north-south in Pinellas County), the closest malls include Countryside Mall (15 minutes south of Palm Harbor) and Clearwater Mall (25 minutes south). Some of the more notable shopping centers in the Tampa Bay area include Brandon Town Center, Old Hyde Park, and West Shore Plaza. Prominent merchants in the area include Barnes and Noble, Dillard's, Jacobsens, JC Penny, Sears Roebuck & Company, and Sam's Club. Grocery stores include Albertsons, Food Lion, Publix, and Winn-Dixie.
Because of its direct access to the Gulf of Mexico, Palm Harbor offers facilities for boating, fishing, and diving. For details on local fishing, be sure to check out Florida Fishing.
For landlubbers, there are excellent golf and tennis facilities available, most notably the luxurious Westin Innisbrook Resort, right here in Palm Harbor. The Pinellas Trail is also available offering a jogging/bicycle path stretching throughout Pinellas County. There are also public parks for picnics and barbecues, as well as sports fields for baseball/softball/soccer enthusiasts. See our Community section for details.
