Clayton County is the fictional home of Magaret Mitchell's legendary novel "Gone With the Wind." In the novel, Scarlett's home, Tara, was
located in Jonesboro. Residents of Clayton County enjoy the State Farmer's Market, which is located in Forest Park, Clayton County. Vendors sell fruits, vegetables, poultry, and dairy products in an open air market.
Popular activities in Clayton County include fishing at Lake Shamrock, attending the annual Arts and Crafts Festival, and attending concerts at the world class Spivey Hall. Spivey Hall hosts jazz, classical and world music vocalists and instrumentalists.
Jonesboro residents also enjoy the Reynolds Nature Preserve, which supplies the Clayton County community with nature trails, an interpretive center and various activities throughout the year. In the 130 acres of primarily hardwood forests there are ponds, wetlands, streams and four miles of well-defined foot paths.
Clayton County Public Schools offer students the best in educational programs and services. This school system was the first in Georgia to provide full-time counselors and instructional lead teachers at every school, including elementary schools.
Clayton College & State University, a four-year public institution, is one of the fastest growing schools in the University of Georgia system. It has one of Georgia's largest continuing education programs, attracting adults from all over the Metro Atlanta area.
