History: The telling of the history of a community stirs the imagination, painting mental pictures of rugged pioneers and people of spirit and daring. Stockbridge is no exception. In 1829, Concord Methodist Church was established and a thriving settlement developed around it. In 1847, the community applied for a post office that required a name. The community was named after Levi Stockbridge, a highly required a name. In 1881, the Southern Railroad was completed between Atlanta and Macon, on a route that passed through Old Stockbridge. Anticipating huge profits, landowners raised the price of their land to the point that the railroad stopped looking for a place to construct a station. It was not until 1882, when two Atlantans bought land a mile south of Concord Methodist Church, that the railroad found a location for its depot. The two speculators offered lots at reasonable prices, attracted and obtained a rail station, and began the history of present day Stockbridge. The community was incorporated as a town in 1895 and was chartered as a city in 1920. The golf course at Eagles Landing is a private 18 hole championship course. Every spring it's home to the Chick-Fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez. A Tom Fazio masterpiece, Eagles Landing golf course has been rated among the very best in the Atlanta area. The course is totally private however guests of the Inn have the opportunity to play at select times. Weather permitting the course is open year round every day except Monday. If tennis is your game, then you will enjoy playing on any of their courts, both hard and clay. Forget your racquet ? No problem. You may rent one from their Tennis Shop and while your there sign up for a lesson if you would like. Perhaps you’d like to go for a swim in one of their three pools. Or lounge by the waters edge enjoying the afternoon sun. Escape and prepare to be pampered at the Solace Center Day Spa, only minutes from The Inn. The Inn offers several types of guest accommodations, all of the same quality.
