Woodstock City Park is one of many local parks (Woodstock City Park is one of many local parks)

Woodstock is located in Cherokee County

Population: 10,050 Woodstock is the perfect blend of small town charm with big city convenience, making it an attractive place to call home for many metro area residents. Homes range from $70,000 to over 1.5 million, offering everything from established neighborhoods to new subdivisions with golf and swim club amenities to elegant southern estates on acreage tracts.

Woodstock is located in the southernmost part of Cherokee County, approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta and 12 miles south of Canton, the county seat. Although Woodstock is one of the fastest growing cities in Cherokee County, respect for its 100+ year history is evident in Woodstock City Park, where the old train depot turned Community Center still stands in the heart of downtown.

The Woodstock City Park gazebo is the setting for outdoor events and concerts throughout the year. Historical downtown Woodstock has a quaint, friendly feel to it, with brick paved sidewalks and old fashioned lampposts. Antique shops, gift shops, an old-fashioned tea room, coffee shop, an art gallery, hardware store, churches, and other small businesses add to the warm flavor of the downtown area.

Minutes away from the historical downtown area are movie theaters and bustling new shopping centers anchored with large national chains like Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Office Depot, Office Max, Pet Smart, Publix, Kroger, and a variety of restaurants.

Woodstock has both the warmth of a small “old town” community, as well as modern options for today’s busy families. Beautiful 12,000 acre Lake Allatoona is conveniently located just minutes west of Woodstock, offering fishing, motor boating, water skiing, sailing, and camping. Adjacent to the lake is a 23,000 acre wildlife management area, home to many types of wildlife, including deer and the endangered bald eagle, which lake visitors will sometimes see flying overhead. Lake Allatoona offers 13 public beaches, 33 boat ramps, and 8 commercial marinas.

Woodstock is part of the Cherokee County School System, recognized as one of the best school districts in the State of Georgia. Cherokee County students consistently score above state and national averages. The Cherokee County School System places a strong emphasis on differentiation of curriculum and teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.

Advanced academic programs are available in elementary, middle, and high school, with advanced placement (college level) courses available at all high schools. (Note: Homes101.net exclusive Realtor Becky Babcock previously served as a member of the Cherokee County Board of Education, and can provide an “insider’s view” of the school system, helping families find just the right school to “fit” their family.)

Woodstock area golf club communities feature several 18-hole courses, including Eagle Watch, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club, and the Golf Club at Bradshaw Farm. Eagle Watch features an Arnold Palmer design, while Towne Lake’s championship course offers a challenging game in a beautiful setting. East of Woodstock is the Golf Club at Bradshaw Farm, offering an 18-hole championship course with an idyllic setting overlooking rolling green hills and signature farm silos reminiscent of when the property was a working farm.

About an hour north of Woodstock, the Mountains of North Georgia offer a wide range of fun for nature lovers, including camping, nature hikes, white water rafting and access to several lakes and over 13 State Parks. Within a 45 minute drive south of Woodstock is the City of Atlanta, with its wide array of professional sporting events, theaters, museums, and cultural events.

Kennesaw State University, part of the Georgia University System, is located just 15 minutes south of Woodstock in Cobb County, offering Bachelors and Masters level programs.

As Woodstock grows, city leaders are planning for the future by constructing a new 40 acre nature park and greenway system along Little River. In addition to bike and pedestrian trails, the park will have fishing piers and canoe landings on Little River, as well as open space along streams and large open areas of land for the preservation of natural features and scenic vistas.

Woodstock has the best of both worlds, old time southern charm, with modern conveniences for busy families. With its excellent location nestled between the city of Atlanta and the mountains of North Georgia and Chattanooga, Woodstock will continue to grow and be the address of choice for many in the metro Atlanta area.
