Caldwell is situated in the Treasure Valley along the Boise River. Covering an area of approximately 12.5 square miles, the City sits at an elevation of 2,428 feet above sea-level.
The valley is surrounded by the Owyhee, Weiser and Boise mountain ranges that rise steeply to 8-9,000 feet above sea level and range in distance from eight to twenty miles away from Caldwell, surrounding the Treasure Valley. The slopes are partly covered with sagebrush, which gives way to chaparral, then to ridges of fir, pine, spruce and juniper.
Recreation: Caldwell, the Gateway to Idaho Outdoors, is near some of the west's most spectacular outdoor recreation areas - mountains, deserts, lakes and rivers. Residents and visitors alike can participate in whitewater rafting, kayaking, backpacking, camping, rock climbing and hiking. There are hunting seasons for big game, upland birds and water fowl.
Education: The school districts in Caldwell consist of Caldwell and Vallivue school districts. They consistently win awards for excellence in education. Each year students gain recognition through the National Merit Examination. The districts are deeply committed to their mission of graduating all students from high school with the knowledge, skills and attributes to be successful citizens.
