(Greenbelt extension bridge on Eagle Island)
The City of Eagle was incorporated on November 2, 1971, and had a population of 3,178. The most recent population number for Eagle more than three and a half times that figure at 11,085 (2000 Census). Eagle is located near the Boise River. The name for the town and nearby island came from the earliest settlers in the Valley. Bald Eagles were still prevalent in the Valley and an Eagle's nest was spotted in a tall cottonwood tree near the Boise River, thus the name "Eagle Island". The atmosphere is pastoral yet progressive in outlook. The City is noted for its mild climate, year round recreational opportunities and friendly people.
Eagle boasts of it properties that are listed on the National Register of Historical Places, which include the O.F. Short House, Eagle Adventist Church, Aiken's Hotel and the Orville Jackson home.
The City has seen an increase in commercial development over the last year. The largest concentration of development is at the intersection of Eagle road and the Alternate Route. In additional to the new Library and Post Office, the City is in the planning stage of a new City Hall.
Eagle has four developed parks and is developing Merrill Park, which will be located along the Boise River. Eagle has also cooperated with Ada County for the construction of the skateboard park phase of the Ada County Sports Complex. The skateboard park is located off of Horseshoe Bend Road (old Highway 55). Eagle has two golf courses within the city limits, Eagle Hills and Banbury Meadows. Just a short distance away, golfers will also be able to enjoy Shadow Valley Golf Course (3 miles) and Plantation Golf Course (7 miles). (Information Courtesy of the City of Eagle)
