Essential Facts For A Resident Of The Village Of Barrington
As a Barrington resident, you know a lot about your community…where the local movie theater is, where to buy your groceries, where the best restaurants in town are…
However, you may need more information on the services available and ordinances pertaining to your Village Government. The Village of Barrington is a non-home rule municipality which functions under the council-manager form of government with a Village President and a six-member Board of Trustees who act as the policy-making body and are elected at-large. Policy recommendations are normally made by one of the four standing committees that include Administrative Services/Finance; Planning, Zoning, and Economic Development; Public Safety; and Public Works. Day-to-day administrative functions are the responsibility of the Village Treasurer, who is appointed by the Board.
Barrington Community Unit School District 220 serves over 8,500 students in preschool through grade 12 who reside in Barrington, Lake Barrington, South Barrington, Tower Lakes and portions of Barrington Hills, Carpentersville, Deer Park, Fox River Grove, Port Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, and North Barrington through twelve schools.
Located 35 miles northwest of Chicago, The Village of Barrington serves as the geographic center of the 72 square mile District. There are large areas of wetlands, forest preserves, parks, and horse trails in the country-suburban setting.
