Elgin is located in Cook and Kane County

Population: 92,000

Elgin is a vibrant community that provides its citizens with quality services. A safe and secure community is ensured through the efforts of the one hundred and fifty officers and additional civilians that make-up the Elgin Police Department. A well-trained and a well-equipped fire department sustains a fire insurance rating of "3". Because industrial and residential developments require a sound sanitary sewer system and an ample supply of high-quality water, Elgin has extended its sewer and water capabilities. Each year the City adds new sewer lines and repairs, replaces or lines existing sewers as part of annual neighborhood street reconstruction projects. Plans are underway to expand the Elgin Riverside Treatment Plant. Completed in 1982, the plant is currently rated at 16 million gallons per day of production.

Get acquainted with one of the great communities along the Fox River. Elgin enjoys a treasured past and we invite you to take a quick glance at some of the many reasons Elgin is a community to watch and explore.

Elgin honors its distinctive heritage at well-maintained museums, historic districts, parks and a movement towards renovation and architectural preservation of its downtown and riverfront area. Boasting the two-time award winning Elgin Symphony Orchestra, The Hemmens Cultural Center and Elgin Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, Elgin is also home to the largest riverboat revenue producer in the state, The Grand Victoria Riverboat Casino. With easy access from the I-90 Tollway, a variety of excellent accommodations, multiple sports complex locations, and 1200 acres of parks welcomes our travelers to this Northern Fox Valley “hub”.

The Centre of Elgin is the premiere public recreational facility in the region.  Completed in November 2002, the facility meets the indoor recreational needs of the community.  The 184,722 square-foot state-of-the-art facility provides a plethora of recreational and fitness programs.  The Centre features a 1/8th mile running/walking track, 9,600 square foot health/fitness center, indoor rock climbing area, racquetball courts, three swimming pools, gymnasium, banquet facilities and arts/crafts studios.  The Parks & Recreational Department also offers a wide variety of instructional classes, from ballroom dancing to the martial arts.

The Hemmens Cultural Center offers you the rare opportunity to experience legendary entertainers and world-class performing artists in an intimate setting.  Located on the Fox River in downtown Elgin, The Hemmens' acoustically superb 1,200-seat theater has been the platform for dynamite performances by mega-stars such as B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bob Newhart, Ray Price and Gin Blossoms.

The City of Elgin and The Highlands golf staff are proud to introduce the area’s newest and most exciting golfing experience. Designed by renowned golf course architect Keith Foster, The Highlands represent his artistic impression of the game’s origins in Scotland. Play amidst the rolling hills, expansive fairways and undulating greens of this new nine-hole municipal course as you appreciate the challenge, beauty and pleasure of the game.

Elgin has a proud 150 year history as a river and railroad town at the center of local trade and culture. Elgin was recently selected by Money magazine as the prototypical American town! The population is diverse, the local economy is thriving and the town has a wealth of resources. The housing market includes new construction to 100+ year old historic homes and includes all price ranges. Many major employers are locating to Elgin and the school district was given a blue ribbon rating by Development magazine. Elgin has easy access to Chicago and O'Hare Airport, as well as major transportation routes.

Elgin is one hour northwest of Chicago's loop on I-90, and 25 minutes west of O'Hare International Airport.
