"Land of Plenty"

Founded by German farmers in the 1830's, Long Grove was prized for its abundance of good farmland, good water, woodlands, and trailways to nearby communities. Access to Chicago, Wisconsin and Lake Michigan was greatly facilitated by trails already blazed by Native Americans. Today, the "Crossroads" area, which includes the original site of the earliest settlers, retains its rustic beginnings. Buildings in this area date back to the time of the German settlers and are presently adorned with plaques that identify the original owners and their occupations. Granted, the blacksmiths, grist mills, and dairies no longer operate, but their structures house a myriad of intriguing shops to visit. The 1840's Long Grove Church has continued to have regular services since its dedication.

Visitors and residents alike are charmed by the enchanting ambience of this rustic town, which lies about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. While Long Grove has dedicated itself to preserving this way of life, the encroaching northwest Chicago suburbs offer an "escape" back into the modern era. There certainly are plenty of shopping and dining options in Long Grove, but a relatively quick drive will land you in the amenities of Palatine, Schaumburg (home of the Woodfield Mall), and Wheeling. Despite the close proximity to many of these cities, Long Grove is able to maintain its privacy and unique character.

Long Grove is Located near Rts. 83 and Old Route 53 -- east of Barrington, south of Lake Zurich, north of Arlington Heights and west of Buffalo Grove. In a sense, Long Grove is a town that time forgot, and it remains reclusively nestled among the towns that surround it.
