(Quincy University)
As a river town during its early stages of development, Quincy was important as a stop for travelers, and as a business and political center. The Quincy of today, which was named an All American City in 1962-1963 and again in 1984-1985, is a modern and progressive industrial city in the heart of a large and fertile agricultural area. Wide tree-lined streets lead to homes both large and small. Quincy has three major historical districts. The Downtown Historic District shows a wide array of architectural styles and displays the affluence of the period from 1850-1930. Quincy's East End Historic District contains every formal architectural style found in the midwest from 1830-1930. The third major historical area is Quincy's German Village. The sturdy homes, some ornate and others very simple, stand as reminders of Quincy's German Heritage.
Quincy is located just 100 miles from Springfield and 120 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. The city offers a quality of life that is unsurpassed in towns of similar size.
