Population: 10,433 Plainfield, is "Anything but Plain". Founded in 1820, the Town of Plainfield was laid out by Levi Jessup and Elias Hadley in 1836.

Located in the heart of Indiana, Plainfield lies about 15 miles southwest of Indianapolis in the nine county Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The town is a booming industrial and distribution growth area with such companies as Pep Boys, Caterpillar, and John Deer locating their national distribution centers in the town. Cinergy (the state's largest electrical utility) maintains a major office in Plainfield. Galyan's Trading Company, a division of The Limited, also calls Plainfield "home". Plainfield residents enjoy the growing retail area east of Town on U.S. 40 where Wal-Mart, Target, Fashion Bug, and 50 other retailers have opened their doors.

The town of Plainfield's four parks and Guilford Township's Hummel park (the state's largest township park) provide over 160 acres of recreational opportunities. The town and township are currently linking the park system with a green belt access route along White Lick Creek.
