Princeton is located in Gibson County

Population: 8,127 Gibson County is located in Southwestern Indiana between Evansville and Vincennes. It is bounded on the west by the Wabash River and on the north by the White River. These features have created the exceptionally fertile farm ground that characterizes the county and the beautiful rolling landscapes that are the pride of the Midwest.

Gibson County and the Princeton area have received national attention due to the influx of business to the area. Toyota has located a truck manufacturing facility in the Princeton area and served as a lure to related businesses into the booming marketplace.

Recreational Facilities
The Princeton Courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. Decorated in a rich exterior of Indiana limestone and pressed brick from St. Louis, the courthouse is an architectural work of art. The interior tile floors and walnut trim with brass railings add detail to this beautiful building.

Gibson County Fairgrounds: Located on North Embree Street, the fairgrounds is the home of the Gibson County Fair in mid-July. The grounds are also leased for go-cart racing and other special events. The Home Economics Building can be rented for parties, reunions, receptions, etc.

Lafayette Park/Princeton Municipal Pool: Located on Spruce Street, the park has sheltered and open picnic facilities, a fishing pond, playground equipment, tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court. The pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Season tickets and swimming lessons are available. The pool is home to the Princeton Swim Club, which competes against area swim teams.

Southside Park: Located on Stout Street, the park has two softball diamonds used for men's and women's leagues, playground equipment, and outdoor basketball court and tennis courts. Shelter houses are also available.

There are several other parks, camps, clubs and recreational activities for every member of the family. Lincoln Park which offers playground equipment and an outdoor basketball courts.

Camp Carson is owned by the YMCA and is available for lease for private groups. Camping facilities, swimming, canoeing, crafts, sports and hiking are offered.

Jack Bishop Field Youth baseball/softball complex. The field hosts T-Ball, T-Shirt, Minor, Major and Babe Ruth Leagues for boys, and Missie, Mini and Maxi softball leagues for girls.

Boys Club operates primarily in the fall and winter months, offering boys' basketball and football programs.

Gibson Lanes has 16 lanes for open and league bowling; video games; pool tables and a snack bar.

Fish & Wildlife Conservation Club offers fishing and picnicking to members.

Princeton Country Club is a nine-hole golf course that offers both club membership and public green fees.

Princeton Theater has four movie screens and a large snack area.

The East Gibson School Corporation consists of Wood Memorial High School, Wood Memorial Junior High School and three kindergarten through sixth grade schools that are located in Oakland City, Mackey and Francisco. The corporation was organized Jan. 1, 1965. The total student enrollment is 1,088. Enrollment for each school is: Wood Memorial High School, 310; Junior High School, 190; Oakland City Elementary, 338; Barton Township School, 138; and Francisco Elementary, 112.

North Gibson School Corporation educated 2,214 youths from Princeton, Patoka, Hazleton and the Mt. Olympus areas in Patoka, Washington and White River townships during the 2000-2001 school year. The school corporation employs approximately 200 persons, of which 133 are certified teachers and administrators. Enrollment by school for the 2000-2001 school year was: PCHS, 675; PCMS, 482; Brumfield Elementary, 466; and Lowell Elementary, 464. An additional 11 students were educated in other locations through the Gibson-Pike-Warrick Special Education Cooperative. In January, 1997, North Gibson implemented Alternative Solutions, an alternative program serving the educational needs of selected high school students in an alternative environment at YMCA Camp Carson as opposed to the traditional classroom setting. Plans are for the program to be doubled in size for the 1997-98 school year and expanded to offer services to eligible middle school students.
