Recreation in the College Park area is vast and diverse. On the 4th of July, Each year, the City of College Park and the University of Maryland hold a free concert on the grounds of the University of Maryland before the annual fireworks display, which begins at dark.
The city also offers a Concert in the Park Series. The concerts in the park are free concerts held each year at Duvall field, located at Rhode Island Avenue and Blackfoot Road. Watch the local newspapers and this web site for specific dates, times and type of music.
The City's Recreation Board, along with area merchants, sponsor a brunch with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus each year, which is free to small children. Holiday activities and games are also scheduled during these annual events. Watch the Municipal Scene and/or cable channel 71 for specific dates and times.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), manages The College Park Community Center, located at 5051 Pierce Avenue in College Park, which offers a variety of athletic facilities, activities and classes.
There is also the College Park Aviation Museum. A 27,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, located on the grounds of the College Park Airport. The gallery is a one-eighth scale replica of the hangar the Wright Brothers built to house their first military aeroplane. It was here in 1909 that Wilbur Wright gave instruction to the first military officers to fly a government aeroplane.
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at Maryland occupies 318,000 square feet and situated on a 17-acre site at the northwest end of the campus, the Center is a state-of-the-art performing arts “village” on the University of Maryland campus, comprised of 10 interconnected structures. It is designed to serve the music, theatre and dance divisions of the University, and in so doing, be a true center of performing arts for regional audiences and national and international professionals.
