Owings Mills is the westernmost part of the Greenspring Valley area which historically supports large acreage tracts and estate-type dwellings that have been redeveloped into large lot, high-end subdivisions.
Out-migration from Baltimore City has extended northwesternly across the city line along the Reisterstown Road corridor into Owings Mills. It is characterized by upper-income housing and commercial development.
One of the major attractions is Owings Mills New Town, the largest growth area in Baltimore County. It is a 430 acre planned community that includes residential, commercial, retail and recreational development. Bordered by a 1,900 acre state park, it is less than one mile from a Baltimore metro subway stop, 25 minutes from downtown Baltimore and 15 minutes from Towson, the County Seat.
New Town boasts a variety of housing types including single family detached homes, courtyard homes, townhomes and condominiums. In addition, there are shops, restaurants, a planned 18 plex movie theater, banks, offices and a beautiful mall.
The area also has a sports center, walking and jogging paths, tennis courts, swimming pools and 100 acres of natural preserve areas and park land.
Owings Mills is located in the northwest section of Baltimore County. It is approximately 20-30 minutes from the downtown area of Baltimore City with it's major attraction, the redeveloped Inner Harbor Area.
