Oxford Relocation Guide

Oxford is located in Talbot County

Population: 771

Oxford, Maryland, was officially founded in 1694, making it one of Maryland's oldest towns. Oxford is located near the mouth of the Tred Avon River and served as one of only two ports of entry for British trade vessels in Colonial times. Oxford flourished in this capacity until the Revolutionary War brought an end to British trade. The town declined for many years until oystering businesses began to flourish in the late 1800's. Today, Oxford is a quite town that is enjoyed by visitors who appreciate it's history and charm.

The Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, believed to be the oldest privately operated ferry in the United States, makes the trip across the Tred Avon River to Bellevue, every 25 minutes. The approach to Oxford from the Bellevue side is very pretty and worth the trip.

Oxford has a lovely town park located on Morris Street. The park has a beautiful view of the Tred Avon River. There are picnic tables and swings overlooking the river. A nice place to enjoy a picnic lunch. The tiny Oxford Custom House, located next to the ferry terminal location, is an exact replica of a custom house that served Oxford during its Colonial past. The Custom House is open weekends from April through late autumn.

The recently renovated Oxford Community Center is home to the Tred Avon Players, a non-profit theatre group that performs plays and musicals throughout the year. Oxford is home to six different marinas with transient boat slips, giving the visiting boater plenty of options.
