Urbana is located in Frederick County

Small town. Big heart" That is the official motto of Urbana. This little, growing community is the perfect place to raise a family, build a career and enjoy life. Urbana, located in Frederick County, just a few miles from the city of Frederick, is fifty miles west of Baltimore, Maryland and northwest of Washington, DC. It is therefore just far enough from the Baltimore/Washington metropolis to enjoy the perfect balance between lively commerce and pastoral tranquility.

Education: Frederick County Public Schools serve the village of Urbana, and has about 39,000 students. Enrollment has increased 46% since 1990. There are 52 traditional schools and 4 specialized schools serving pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Three new schools opened in the 2001-2002 school year.

Being part of the Frederick County's school system means that the students attend nationally recognized schools. The school district remains one of the region's leaders in virtually every measure of student achievement and educational attainment. The students have scored higher than the national average in their combined Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT). Frederick County Public Schools have been a recipient for many years of the US Department of Education's prestigious national Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Award.

Recreation and Culture: No matter how busy everyone needs to take a break once in awhile. Start the fun in downtown Frederick, an official All-American City featuring 33 blocks of historic charm, a vibrant business district and two downtown parks.

Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts, antiques and more. With the recent addition of nearly 1 million square feet of retail facilities, Frederick, the main city in Frederick County, is becoming a destination point for the discriminating shopper.

Time to downshift? There's plenty of wide-open space to explore. Celebrate the weekend at a country festival. Tee off at one of seven challenging golf courses. Hike the C&O Canal towpath. Camp or fish surrounded by the natural beauty of 20,000 parkland acres. Catch a Frederick Keys game at a home stadium that's the envy of other minor league baseball teams.

Golf: Worthington Manor Golf Club is beautifully carved from Maryland's countryside. It has a magnificent 18-hole, 7000-yard, Ault-Clark Signature Course features lush bent grass from tee to green. Worthington Manor has received rave reviews, such as "One Of The Middle Atlantic's 100 Best Public Courses" and "One of prolific Ault, Clark & Associates' best." This premier golf course is located just three miles from Urbana.

Housing: Urbana is a developing quickly and there are many new communities being built, to suit all price ranges. Most of these new communities are incorporating elements of the surrounding countryside in order to not disturb the ecology more than necessary. Many of them are building nature parks and trails into the sub-divisions.

Transportation: As more and more high-tech companies move to Frederick, residents are able to work near where they live. Without rush-hour gridlock, employees arrive on time, ready for a productive day.

Urbana is well connected. Two interstates and other key highways converge there and shift smoothly into one of the best transportation networks in the east. Both Washington, D.C., and Baltimore are within an hour's drive. Urbana certainly has a lot of offer any family wanting to move; location, great schools, affordable, new housing and wonderful recreational and cultural activities. Try it - you'll fall in love with Urbana!
