We have a thriving community that enjoys our picturesque downtown with its gorgeous window boxes, wonderful restaurants and eclectic shops. We have a commuter train to Boston, an eight mile long barrier beach, a wildlife refuge with over 300 species of birds stopping over on their migratory routes, a 500 acre state park on the river, a movie house, live theatre...the list goes on and on! The best part of Newburyport is the wonderful sense of community and the people who live here.
One of our community's big events is Yankee Homecoming. For two weeks in the month of August we have Live music on the streets, food vendors, artists, children's events....every day is something new and exciting, culminating with a big parade through town on the last day. This is always a great time to visit and think about living here. Art galleries, whale watching, boat tours, waterfront concerts, and theater are some of our regular highlights that go on all through spring, summer, and fall.
Newburyport's downtown area is a wonderful example of New England architecture that is home to dozens of fabulous restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and shops. It is a wonderful place to grab a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning and watch the boats head out to sea. Take in a show at the Firehouse Theater which is home to great shows in an intimate setting including musicals, plays and speakers. Walk the many quaint streets home to great dispays of colonial architecture and beautiful pocket gardens.
