Davison is situated near the eastern border of Genesee County, about 10 miles east of Flint. Columns of Old Glory gracing the main shopping area remind you that this is "the City of Flags." The downtown area also has a unique style of continuous overhanging shelters in front of the stores.

Davison was first settled in 1842 by Eleazer Thurston. It was given a post office in 1850 with the name Davison Centre. It was renamed Davison in 1864. It was incorporated as a village in 1889 and later as a city in 1938.
