This small, Victorian-style town is located just west of Lansing near the intersection of Highways 49 and 100. The town was founded in the mid 1800's and was named for the rocky ledges along the Grand River, which flows through town. In fact, a section of these ledges called, appropriately, The Ledges, is designated specifically for climbing and provides quite an aerobic workout.
Grand Ledge continues to grow as its diverse economy, which includes auto-parts production and materials handling equipment, expands and more opportunities arise. In addition, local attractions have increased. Many visitors to the area first arrive as tourists. A few of the more popular attractions are the Country Mill, which is a working orchard and cider mill open from August to Christmas, and the Princess Laura Riverboat, which ferries visitors through the Grand Ledge Islands and provides a scenic view of the rocky ledges along the Grand River. Other recreational opportunities are to be found at several local parks and the "River Path", a 1.5-mile trail which displays the sandstone ledges on both sides of the Grand River.
