The City of Coon Rapids is a quiet suburb on the banks of the Mississippi River just twelve minutes (15 miles) northwest of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Coon Rapids is the second largest suburb in the metropolitan area (land area is 23 square miles), and the sixth largest city in the State of Minnesota with a population in excess of 63,000.
The City of Coon Rapids operates under a Charter adopted in 1959 by the citizens. The form of government established by the Charter is the Council/Manager plan.
According to the 1990 Census the median age is 29.3 years; the median family income is $44,827. In 1999 the average sale price of homes was $117,500. A 1999 Estimate of the number of housing units was 21,993.
