"The Garden Spot"

Author Elizabeth Fry Ellet was responsible for the naming of this community when she commented on the area's bluffs and prairies as lending to the area's description as a "garden spot". Originally founded by Native Americans, the land was opened up in 1851 after a treaty allowing pioneers to survey the area for later settlements.

While Eden Prairie was founded on agriculture and continues to delve into this industry on a limited basis, the city has moved far beyond its simple beginnings. Today, corporate headquarters are located here, along with exciting new developments, including shopping centers and prestigious neighborhoods. Growth is fostered by the city's status as a piece of Minneapolis-St. Paul suburbia, as this growing metro area is bringing in new job opportunities and new residents.

Eden Prairie is just 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. In addition to sharing the cultural and commercial wealth of the big city, Eden Prairie is also richly blessed with parks and recreation areas. There are over one dozen lakes within the city's limits!

Eden Prairie blends the wonderful resources of Minneapolis with a quiet and historical character that charms both residents and visitors alike. A quick visit to the city opens up a large array of activities, including symphony performances, Broadway plays, and the excitement of professional sports. At day's end you will be pleased to return to your new home and enjoy the peaceful contrast.

Eden Prairie is bordered on the south by the Minnesota River and the James W. Wilke Regional Park. Expressways form its northern and eastern borders, providing easy access to all of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Come visit Eden's Prairie and learn what Elizabeth Fry Ellet first described as a "garden spot".
