Orono is truly the country-living suburb of Minneapolis in every sense of the word. Those who farm or want to live on a hobby farm or at least own land gravitate to Orono. This is the area I was raised in and where I went to school. In 1952-1958 my class size in High School was 52 young men and women from 4 elementary schools and 3 parochial schools. Now the High School graduates 300+ each year and the students range from Agriculturally based children to executive's children to children of professors and service industry leaders, but the common denominator is space and acreage and an almost country kind of relaxed attitude to life. Old-Fashioned values are the rule and yet while sportsmanship exists, the competition in school to excel and the caliber of the athletic teams is fierce. These folks have it together in every way but the attitude is relaxed and they believe that actions speak louder than words. Truly old-fashioned values indeed.

Stats: Orono is very spread out and many Hobby Farms and Horse farms exist. Acreage is almost the rule with 2-4 acres being common.
