Average high temperatures in July are 89.5 F. and the average low is 50.2 F. Winters are cold and dry with an average annual snowfall of 32 inches. The average high temperature in January is 46.5 F. and the average low is 20.7 F.

The Carson City School District has one high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools, with a total student enrollment of 8,037. There are also several private firms offering tutoring or special educational requirements. Western Nevada Community College is a public two-year college chartered to provide comprehensive high-quality education throughout Western Nevada. WNCC offers several associate degree programs as well as basic education and job development skills. The community college has a headcount enrollment of 4,947.
