PORTSMOUTH The jewel in the crown of the "Special Corner of New Hampshire" from it's stately historic houses to its bustling downtown harbor, the Greater Portsmouth area offers unparalleled variety of professional and recreational opportunities.  Close proximity to the University of New Hampshire.  The city of Portsmouth is the second oldest in New Hampshire with original settlement in 1623 as a major shipbuilding center.  It still remain as an important center of commerce and accessible from fine major highways including interstate 95.

Portsmouth, sits near the mouth of the Piscataqua River, and is at the hub of a metropolitan region that includes several small cities and many towns.  The local economy is currently very strong. Unemployment is very low, housing costs are high, and the vacancy rate is very low. Many computer-related businesses have sprung up locally, and the redevelopment of Pease Air Force Base is generating new job opportunities.

The community of Portsmouth provides excellent public services, wonderful educational facilities, and a favorable economic base and tax climate and are ideal locations for a business or residence.

Settled in 1623, Portsmouth thrived as a harbor town and shipbuilding center throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Portsmouth is still a deep water port, with it's own Foreign Trade Zone, and ice-free access to the Atlantic Ocean. Great care has been taken to preserve the historical sites and buildings, which give this modern city it's old-world appeal.

The Port City is nationally known for its outstanding cuisine and offers a wealth of opportunity for shoppers looking for the unusual. Designer dress shops, art and antique galleries, international boutiques, bookstores and country gift shops are just some of the businesses that make up this picture-book riverside New England city's downtown.

Eating at one of the outdoor cafes in Market Square, or on the deck of one of the riverside restaurants, or enjoying a free concert or theatrical production at Prescott Park Arts Festival are just some of your summer options in Portsmouth. The city is also the site of the Strawberry Banke Museum, a community of restored 18th- and 19th-century homes, and the Children's Museum, both on Marcy Street.
