Population: 1,243 Located in southeastern New Mexico, the town of Loving is about 20 miles north of the Texas border and 20 miles southeast of the city of Carlsbad. While many of the historic buildings have been torn down, a new post office entices people from all over the world to send Valentines here to be stamped "Loving".

This small town did not always have such a romantic-sounding moniker. When Swiss immigrants settled this area in 1904 they named it Vaud as this was their home in Switzerland. It was eventually changed to Loving in honor of a cattle rancher, Oliver Loving.
