Hamburg is located in Erie County

Population: 56,259 The Town of Hamburg, in Erie County, is located on the beautiful shore of Lake Erie, 11 miles south of the City of Buffalo. Residents find employment in industrial and service industries within the Town and Metropolitan Buffalo. The Villages of Blasdell and Hamburg are contained within the Town's boundaries. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is a 20 minute drive from Hamburg, on the New York State Thruway.

Minutes away from Hamburg, you have Canada and Niagara Falls to the North; winery tours, Amish Country and the Chautauqua Institute to the South; ski resorts and amusement parks to the East and over 9,000 square miles of fishing, boating and water sports to the west.

The town of Hamburg has many different recreational activities for all members of the family. The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department sponsors the annual SNO-FEST, Hamburg's favorite winter weekend carnival.

The Sno-fest offers free public skating, cross country skiing, hay wagon rides, snow mountain tubing, face painting, mascot visits, snowshoeing and more. Competitive events such as a snow sculpture contest, and skating races are also offered.

The Lakeview Road Recreation Area is commonly called the "NIKE BASE", a reference to the facilities days as a United States Army Base. Acquired as recreation land by the Town of Hamburg in 1969, the Nike Base is now home of the Recreation Department's relocated offices.

The complex also includes the "Hamburg Town (Ice) Arena, a Model Air Park and a BMX Bicycle Track. In addition, there are Athletic Fields for soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball (lighted).

The ice arena features a regulation size enclosed ice surface, locker rooms, warming area, snack bar and game room.

From late April thru August a sport court surface is installed in the Arena that can be utilized for roller/floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, box lacrosse or indoor soccer.

In July and August the Arena houses the Day Camp Friendship program for boys and girls 7-13 yrs. of age.

The Modle Air Park is home to both the Flying Knights and the Radio-Controlled Aircrafters.

The BMX Bicycle Track is a 400 x 600 foot outdoor bicycle track and has a lease agreement with the Southtowns BMX Club, which holds four races per month between May and September.

Athletic fields currently exist for softball(lighted), baseball, soccer, lacrosse and football, and are utilized by organizations such as the Young America Soccer Club and The Hamburg Knights Lacrosse Association. Additional softball and baseball diamonds are currently under construction.

Hamburg Town Park, located on the shore of Lake Erie, includes a Fitness Center as well as the Beach and Boat Launch.

The Fitness Center, located on the upper level of the beach house, is open year-round and offers an array of cardiovascular equipment, free weights, weight machines, and a private aerobics room.

The Fitness Center is staffed with weight training specialists and certified aerobic instructors. Due to a covenant on the property deed, the facility is open to Town of Hamburg Residents only. Registrants may choose from monthly (college or aerobics only), quarterly or yearly membership options.

The sandy beach swimming area is patrolled by certified life guards from early June through Labor Day. A snack bar, changing rooms and rest rooms are available to the public. Beach parking permits are required and are issued at the Fitness Center. Adjacent to the swimming area is a boat launch; with a special area reserved for windsurfers. Boat launch permits are required and are issued at the Fitness Center.

The Lakeview Community Center is used by the Recreation Department as a Youth Center and also hosts Youth Bureau programming. In addition, the site is utilized by local Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations.

The Centennial Art Center of Hamburg offers a variety of workshops, classes and demonstrations to anyone interested in art. Program events include slide shows, benefit luncheons, water color painting, and screen printing.

The eighteen hole Hamburg Town Golf Course is available for play from mid April (weather permitting) to October 31st.

The public educational system of the Town of Hamburg is maintained by multiple school districts - Hamburg Central, Frontier Central, West Seneca Centraland Orchard Park Central School Districts. These school districts are legally independent of each other.

Both the Hamburg and Frontier Districts are members of the Board of Cooperative Services (BOCES), which is a cooperative venture by a number of school districts in the Buffalo area to provide specialized educational services which school districts acting individually would be unable to provide. Under this program, students from Hamburg and Frontier are eligible to receive additional vocational training in courses such as cosmetology, auto mechanics, electronics, and commercial art at the Potter Road School in West Seneca. Vocational-technical training facilities for student practical nurses are also available at two area hospitals.

Broad special education programs are available to students who are identified as specific learning disabled, emotionally handicapped, educable mentally retarded, and trainable mentally retarded. These programs are provided with trained personnel to assist students in making the maximum progress possible. Speech therapists, reading teachers, psychologists, school social workers, and school nurses comprise a supportive staff for all students.

For young children, many talented and dedicated Child Care Providers offer nursery programs, full time day care centers, and before and after school programs.

For high school graduates, many Colleges and Universities offer an excellent education in Western New York.
