History
Wesley Hills, originally named Wesley Chapel, named after a chapel built in 1829 by a circuit-riding preacher named James Sherwood.

The northeast corner of Grandview Avenue and Route 202 was the Kakiat Airstrip. Early air-mail delivery was flown from there.

Wesley Hills is green and peaceful with quiet neighborhood streets. All the lots are relatively large. Vestige fringes of orchard and forest remain between houses. The only commercial area is small and very vital. It contains a kosher supermarket, a drug store, a cleaner, a doctor, a nail salon, a kosher Italian and a Kosher Chinese take-out, and a few other stores. At night the village is quiet, peaceful and largely dark. Wildlife abounds here with many kinds of birds, small mammals and deer.

Residents take considerable care of their houses and property, carefully maintaining both. Peace, quiet, beauty and a certain closeness to nature, coupled together with reminders of the rural past, make Wesley Hills an attractive and desirable place to live and raise children.

The Village Board wants to help preserve the character of the village. They recognize a tendency for change towards urbanization and away from the rural, suburban character that all the residents enjoy and appreciate. The strong zoning is the key.
