Elon, a quaint but vibrant town of 7,000 residents on the western edge of Alamance County., has been expanding by leaps and bounds in recent years. Home to Carolina Biological Supply Company and Elon University, the area has become increasingly well known. It is an easy commute to the Triad region of Greensboro/Winston Salem/High Point. Two major upscale residential communities, Mill Pointe and Georgetown are well underway and others planned. Twin Lakes, a local retirement community, is in the process of being expanded. Other growing nearby communities nearby Gibsonville, Sedalia and Whitsett across the Guilford County line.
Elon University is also in a phase of expansion, with a recently completed science building and a new library currently under construction. Besides its 4,700 undergraduates, there are highly rated Master's programs in education, business administration, and communications and doctorate programs in law and physical therapy. Princeton Review has named Elon a "best buy", and Newsweek, one of 25 "hot colleges" for 2006. The 575 acre campus is beautiful and cultural opportunities for area residents abound.
