The town is home to an award-winning public school system and offers several private schools, plus three colleges and universities.

Cumberland County Schools is the fourth largest school system in North Carolina, with 53 elementary schools, 15 middle schools and 10 high schools. Year-round schooling is available, along with character education and innovative scheduling for high school classes.
There are also 10 private schools, including church-affiliated schools.
Colleges And Universities
Fayetteville Technical Community College is the second largest technical training college in North Carolina, with over 7,000 full-time students. The community college is also home to a Center for Business and Industry, which provides specialized training for new employers.
Business programs at both graduate and undergraduate levels are available at Fayetteville State University with 4,100 students. FSU is part of the University of North Carolina system. North Carolina State University in nearby Raleigh, NC offers a wide curriculum, including engineering programs.
Methodist College, with over 2,000 students, is a senior, co-educational college of liberal arts and sciences. Methodist College offers bachelor's degrees in 44 fields of study and is the fastest-growing private college in North Carolina.
Close to the best beaches on the East Coast and just a few hours from the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, Fayetteville boasts a warm climate, even warmer people, beautiful neighborhoods, a revitalized historic downtown and a multi-cultural atmosphere. Fayetteville Parks and Recreation maintains 42 parks throughout the community and supports a variety of youth and adult athletic programs, including softball, basketball, soccer and tennis. In addition to special family events like the annual Egg Hunt and Summerfest, Fayetteville Parks and Recreation offers activity classes for all ages. The department also operates a hands-on children's museum, a special population center and a senior center.
The Arts - Theater, music and art lovers will also enjoy Fayetteville. Local attractions include the Cape Fear Regional Theater, a semi-professional community theater that consistently surprises and delights through its dynamic productions. The theater highlights the region's artistic richness through its presentation of both evocative plays by Southern writers, as well as many other popular plays, often starring nationally known actors. The Cape Fear Regional Theater is the winner of many honors, including the North Carolina Theatre Conference's first award for outstanding community theater.
Cumberland County Crown Coliseum is part of a world class entertainment and sports complex. The Complex offers four venues hosting a variety of events - a 13,500 seat Crown Coliseum, a 60,000 sq. ft. Expo Center, a 5,200 sq. ft. arena and a 2,430 seat auditorium.
