Holden Beach, part of the South Brunswick Islands, is one of three barrier island municipalities including Sunset Beach & Ocean Isle Beach. The inland towns are Shallotte, Varnamtown, Carolina Shores, and Calabash.

Holden Beach shares the mild temperature and four seasons year-round. It is the northernmost and largest island. Visitors can rent beach cottages, condominiums or motel rooms. The beach's permanent residents share their celebration of living on the sea through two festivals, A Day at the Docks in March and Festival by the Sea in October. Boat building continues on the mainland side where shrimping and fishing boats bring their catch to shore. Citizens and government officials have met the challenge eith improved infrastructure, expanding health care, greater educational opportunities, cultural events, and much more.
